Dr Matthew Hawthorne is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with substantial experience in providing comprehensive surgical care for conditions affecting the mouth, jaws and face.
He consults with Intraface and operates across Brisbane and Ipswich working closely with dentists, GPs and specialists.
Matthew completed a Bachelor of Science (Hons) and a Bachelor of Dental Science (Hons) at the University of Queensland. He then began his career as a general dentist and spent two years working for the Mt Isa Base Hospital Dental Service, regularly flying to remote communities in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Those experiences inspired him to undertake the rigorous training required to become an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Matthew completed his medical degree at the University of Tasmania, then returned to his hometown of Brisbane to complete his residency.
He qualified as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in 2006, after extensive training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Mater Hospital. He then accepted an appointment through the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital as a visiting medical officer in oral and maxillofacial surgery based at Logan Hospital, where he participated in the public after-hours on-call roster and trained the next generation of surgeons.
Matthew has held positions on the Board of Studies for the RACDS and chaired the Accreditation Committee for the Australia and New Zealand OMS training programs.

Each patient is assessed individually, with treatment recommendations based on clinical findings, imaging and overall health considerations. Matthew works collaboratively with referring practitioners and, where required, with other medical and dental specialists to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
