Organising Your Consultation

A referral from your Dentist, GP or specialist is required before we can arrange a consultation. If you are unsure whether your referral has been received, please contact us and we will confirm this for you.

What to Bring to Your First Appointment

To help ensure your initial consultation runs smoothly, please bring:

  • Your referral letter (if not already sent to us)
  • Any recent X-rays, OPGs or scans provided by your dentist or doctor
  • Your Medicare card
  • Private health insurance details (if applicable)
  • A list of current medications
  • Other information relevant to your medical history

If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must attend with you.

What to Expect at Your Consultation

Your consultation is an opportunity for you to explain your symptoms and concerns.

Your surgeon will review your history and perform a thorough clinical assessment before recommending appropriate treatment.
During your appointment, your Surgeon may:

  • Review your medical and dental history
  • Examine the area of concern
  • Review any imaging and determine if further imaging is required
  • Clearly communicate their findings
  • Listen and respond to your questions
  • Outline treatment options, including whether surgery is necessary
Pre-Operative Information

Surgery is recommended only when it is clinically appropriate. In some cases, no surgical treatment is required.
If surgery is advised, we will provide:

  • A detailed written quotation, including item numbers so you can contact your health fund and estimate your out-of-pocket costs
  • Information about hospital and anaesthetist arrangements (if required)
  • Clear pre-operative instructions tailored to your procedure and your particular situation (e.g. managing medications prescribed for other conditions)

You will receive clear guidance about fasting requirements, medication adjustments and what to organise for the day of surgery.

We also provide post-operative instructions specific to your procedure and follow up after surgery to check on your recovery.

Fees

Fees are discussed on the day of your consultation. Treatment costs vary depending on the complexity of the procedure and whether surgery is performed in hospital under general anaesthetic or in our rooms under local anaesthetic.

A detailed, personalised quote will be provided during your consultation, allowing you to make an informed decision about your treatment options.

You may be eligible for rebates from Medicare or your private health insurer, depending on your cover. Our team will provide item numbers so you can confirm rebates directly with your health fund.

The cost varies depending on how complex your case is and whether your procedure is performed in-rooms under local anaesthetic or in hospital under general anaesthetic. You’ll receive a personalised, itemised quote after your consultation.

A detailed quotation with payment options will be issued during your consultation. Surgical fees will need to be paid in full before the scheduled surgery date.

You may claim a rebate from either Medicare or your private health insurer, but you cannot claim from both sources for the same service.

Please note: Our practice does not deal directly with private health insurers. You are responsible for lodging your own claim.

Yes, treatment is available to all patients, whether insured or uninsured. During your consultation, you will receive a detailed quotation for our surgical fees. If you proceed with surgery, we will provide contact details for the hospital and anaesthetist so you can obtain quotes for any additional costs.

Recovery varies depending on the procedure. You will be given clear, individualised guidance before and after surgery.

Please follow your surgeon’s pre-operative instructions carefully. If undergoing general anaesthesia, a standard fasting requirement is to not eat or drink for at least 6 hours before surgery. Arrange for someone to drive you home after your procedure.

If you have received general anaesthesia, you must travel with a responsible adult or carer. Please arrange for an adult to collect you from the hospital and remain with you for at least 24 hours following your procedure.

If your surgery is performed under local anaesthetic only, you may take a taxi; however, we recommend that a family member or friend accompany you where possible.

Some medications, such as blood thinners, may need to be adjusted before surgery. Please inform your Surgeon of all medications you take, and they will advise you accordingly.
